The Clean Energy Science Lectures.

In October 2019, the Fuel and Energy Research Forum, (FERF), reinstated an annual energy scientific lecture with the organisation and part-funding by the FERF with the Advanced Power Generation Technologies Forum, (APGTF).  This Inaugural Clean Energy Science Lecture, (CESL), was entitled, “Evolution or Revolution: A Personal Journey of the UK Power Industry towards a Sustainable Future”, and was presented by Dr. Nina Skorupska, CBE FEI, Chief Executive of Renewable Energy Association, (REA).  It was accompanied by a Workshop on Combustion Related Research and was held at Mary Sumner House, Westminster, London on Monday 7th October 2019.

Nina Skorupska, Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Association, gave the Inaugural Clean Energy Science Lecture.

The 2nd Clean Energy Science Lecture was held in September 2021, (there was a 2-year gap due to the Covid Pandemic), and was organised and funded by the FERF with the APGTF.  This Lecture was entitled, “Research Challenges for Zero Carbon and Sustainable Fuels : Prospects and the Pathway Forward for the Clean Energy of the Future”, and was presented by Prof. Mohamed Pourkashanian, Head of University Energy Research and Head of the Translational Energy Research Centre at the University of Sheffield.  The Lecture was held during the 1st FERIA Conference at the University of Nottingham on Monday 6th September 2021.

The 3rd Clean Energy Science Lecture was held in September 2022 and was now organised and funded wholly by the FERF.  This 3rd CESL was entitled, “Can Negative Emissions from Bioenergy Systems Become a Reality and What is Needed to Secure Their Development?”.  The Lecture was presented by Prof. Patricia Thornley, Director of the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute and Associate Dean, (Research), in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Aston University. She is also the Director of the Supergen Bioenergy Hub and Editor in Chief of Biomass and Bioenergy.  This Lecture was held at Aston University as part of the 2022 SuperGen Autumn event on Tuesday 6th September 2022.

The 5th Clean Energy Science Lecture was held in October 2024 and was presented by Prof. Jon R. Gibbins, Director of the UKCCSRC and Professor of Power Plant Engineering and Carbon Capture at the University of Sheffield.  This Lecture was entitled, “What Might People be Burning in a Net-Zero World and Why and How?” and was held at the British Flame Research Committee, (BFRC), 2-day Flame Event, (08-09/10/24), in Poole, Dorset, at the RNLI Conference Centre on Tuesday 8th October 2024.
